When Someone Dies
When someone dies in hospital
The hospital staff will arrange for a doctor to issue the Medical Certificate of Death which you will then collect along with any other personal effects.
If the funeral is to be a Cremation, you should advise the hospital staff so they can make arrangements for any additional documentation that will be required, or alternatively contact us and we will contact the hospital on your behalf.
When someone dies at home
Contact the deceased’s doctor. If the doctor is satisfied with the cause of death, they will issue the Medical Certificate of Death. In some cases you may be asked to collect the Certificate from the Surgery. After you have informed the doctor, contact us.
When someone dies in a nursing or residential home
This is a very similar situation as being at home but the nursing staff will normally liaise with the doctor.
When someone dies unexpectedly
The Coroner will automatically be involved. In this case contact us as soon as possible and we will be able advise on the procedures involved and liaise with the Coroner’s office.
